Mums Good Ol Red Velvet Cake

- 1/4 cup brown sugar shopping list
- 3/4 cup sugar shopping list
- 1/2 cup butter shopping list
- 3 eggs shopping list
- 1 tbsp vanilla shopping list
- 3 tbsp red food colouring shopping list
- 1 tbsp water shopping list
- 3 tbsp cocoa powder, sifted shopping list
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour shopping list
- 1/2 tsp salt shopping list
- 1 cup buttermilk shopping list
- 1 tbsp vinegar shopping list
- 1 1/2 tsp baking soda shopping list
How to make it
- Preheat oven to 350F. Grease and flour either two round 9" cake pans or one large (9x13") pan.
- Cream sugars and butter until fluffy.
- Add eggs and vanilla, beat on high speed for 2 minutes.
- Make a paste of the food colouring, water and cocoa powder, add to above mixture, mixing well.
- In another bowl, whisk together flour and salt.
- Add dry ingredients alternately with the buttermilk to the creamed mixture.
- Mix vinegar and baking soda to combine well.
- Add to the batter, mixing in thoroughly.
- Pour into prepared pan(s), tap on the countertop to dislodge any large bubbles.
- Bake 30 minutes (for 9" pans), until cakes test done.
