How to make it

  • In bread maker (follow bread maker instructions on order of adding ingredients)
  • Place milk, water, butter (cut up), egg, flour, sugar, 1 tsp salt and yeast (I also added 1 tsp garlic powder)
  • Select dough setting
  • Check after 5 minutes of mixing (I found the times I made this I added about 1 cup more of flour)
  • When cycle is complete, turn dough onto lightly floured surface, and punch down
  • Cover and let it rest for 10 to 30 minutes.
  • Shape into circle or rectangle (do not make too thin),
  • Place on a baking pan (lightly covered with olive oil) and cover
  • Let is rise to doubled
  • Using a wood spoon handle, make intentions about 1/4" indents in dough
  • Brush with olive oil (4 tbsp)
  • Mix salt, garlic, basil together and sprinkle over top of bread
  • Sprinkle parmesan cheese over top (add more if you like)
  • Bake 400 oven for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown, (if oven cooks quickly, watch, you do not want to burn or undercook)
  • Cut into wedges or squares.

    This recipe has problems. Nonetheless I was able to work around them and turn out a great tasting focaccia.
