Bacon Wrapped Bratwurst With Sweet Mustard Dip

- 4 bratwurst shopping list
- 3 (12) ounce cans light beer shopping list
- 5 T brown sugar shopping list
- 1 t cayenne pepper or to taste shopping list
- 6 slices bacon, cut in half (I like to use the precooked so it comes out nice and crispy, not underdone) shopping list
How to make it
- Poke bratwurst several times with a fork
- Place in s large saucepan with the beer
- Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to medium and simmer for 15 minutes
- Remove bratwurst from the beer and let cool to room temperature
- Preheat oven to 425 degrees
- Line a baking sheet with foil, and place a wire rack on top
- Toss the brown sugar with the cayenne pepper in a large bowl and set aside
- Cut each bratwurst into three pieces and wrap each piece with half strip of bacon
- Secure with a toothpick
- Toss the brats with the brown sugar mixture to coat
- Place on the rack on the foiled lined pan
- Bake until the bacon is done about 25-35 minutes if using raw bacon. The precooked doesn't take as long
- Serve with the sweet mustard dip
- DIP
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 2 T ground mustard
- 1/3 cup white vinegar
- 1 egg
- In a small saucepan, combine sugar and mustard
- Whisk in vinegar and egg
- Cook and stir over low heat for about 20 minutes or until thickened
- Pour into ca container, cool, cover and refrigerate for up to 3 weeks.
- Is great on ham sandwiches, too!

Very good!!! I replace the cayenne with chipotle, and keep the brats whole, serving on a bun. I also cook onions in the beer for drunken onions to serve with the brats. This is a staple for tailgating. Thanks for sharing!!
