Traditional dish served in the Orkney Islands, Scotland. Serve it with haggis! Well, ok, you can serve it to accompany just about any meat dish. Filling, healthy and homey. If you serve the mashed potatoes and cut turnips separately, you have "Tatties and Neeps".
Ingredients
- 1 lb potatoes, peeled shopping list
- 1 lb turnips (swedes) shopping list
- 1 tbs chopped chives shopping list
- -or- shopping list
- 1small onion, chopped shopping list
- 1 to 2 tbs butter shopping list
- salt and pepper to taste shopping list
How to make it
- Boil potatoes and turnips separately, drain very dry.
- Mash them together while still hot.
- Stir in remaining ingredients.
- Season with salt and pepper.
- If desired, add a sprinkle of nutmeg or mace.
- Serve hot.
