Ingredients
  • Cabbage Rolls:
  • 1 lb. hamburger
  • ⅜ to ½ cup cooked rice
  • 1 egg
  • I medium head of cabbage
  • Sauce:
  • 1 tsp. Real Lemon
  • ¼ tsp ground ginger
  • 1 tsp. paprika
  • ¼ tsp. marjoram
  • ¼ tsp. dill weed
  • 3 cans tomato soup
  • 1 soup can water
  • 1 Tbsp. bacon bits
  • 2 Tbsp. Worcestershire Sauce
  • ¼ cup red wine vinegar
  • 1 Tbsp. dried minced onion
  • 1 Tbsp. minced garlic
  • 2 tsp. sugar
  • ¼ tsp. crushed red pepper seeds
  • ¼ tsp. ground cloves
  • ¼ tsp. nutmeg
  • 1 tsp. salt

Directions
  1. Combine all sauce ingredients in a mixing bowl.
  2. Combine hamburger, rice and egg in a mixing bowl then add about ⅓ of the sauce mixture and mix thoroughly.
  3. Remove the core from the cabbage and place in a pot of boiling water until the leaves seperate easily.
  4. Place approximately 1 to 2 Tbsp. of meat mixture in the center of each leaf and roll, tucking in edges to seal the roll. Place finished rolls in lightly greased baking dish.
  5. Pour the remaining sauce mixture over the rolls, cover and bake at 350° for about an hour then uncover long enough to allow the sauce to thicken and lightly brown the tops of the rolls.

I have never made cabbage rolls at home, even though my husband and I both love them - your recipe sounds delish...I will be trying this one when the cooler weather of fall finally arrives! Thanks darbar.

My grandfather was Austrian, so we had a variation of these a lot. My mom occassionally makes them - i have let to master. Will have to try this.

Want to know what we call these in PA Dutch country? Pigs-in-a-blanket!!!!!!!!!!

YUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
I make something like this also but minus bacon and instead of baking it. i put in heavy based pan on low heat all stacked up. pour some small sauce over it. then squeeze lemon juice on top of that or citric acid. place plate on top of that to weigh it. then the lid and slooooow cook... YUM.. i will try your recipe. minus bacon =) thankyou for it

I have never heard of using lemon, bacon bits are nasty and hard ;-)
