Ingredients

How to make it

  • Melt butter and cool. Add sugar and molasses and mix well.
  • Add eggs and vanilla. Beat well.
  • Sift together flour, soda, spices and salt. Add to first mixture.
  • Add nut meats, mix well.
  • Drop by scant spoonful on greased and floured baking sheets about 2 inches apart.
  • Bake in moderate oven 375 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes.
  • Let pans cool completely before refilling. Hot pans will ruin the next batch of cookies.

Thanks, Chef Jeb. This book is so old and very precious. The inks from each recipe are running through the pages to the other side and some of her writing is so hard to decipher. I treasure it and trust me I've printed the recipes out, so the book won't get anywhere near the actual kitchen to get splattered and battered anymore.
The actual book cover is ostrich skin treated like leather.
