Cinnamon Sugar Ribbon Bread
From frankieanne 10 years agoIngredients
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar shopping list
- 1 Tbs cinnamon shopping list
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted shopping list
- 1 large egg shopping list
- 1 cup light brown sugar, packed shopping list
- 1/4 cup canola or vegetable oil (I used a canola/vegetable blend) shopping list
- 1 Tbs vanilla extract shopping list
- 1 cup buttermilk shopping list
- 2 cups all-purpose flour shopping list
- 1 tsp ground nutmeg shopping list
- 3/4 tsp baking soda shopping list
- pinch of salt shopping list
How to make it
- Preheat oven to 350F.
- In a large microwave safe bowl, melt the butter. While the butter cools a bit (so the egg doesn't scramble) grease and flour a 9 x 5” loaf pan.
- In a small bowl, stir to combine the granulated sugar with the cinnamon and set aside.
- Add the egg, brown sugar, oil, and the vanilla to the butter and whisk to combine. Add the buttermilk and whisk it in. Then add the flour, nutmeg, baking soda and salt and stir. Don't overmix. The batter will be thick and lumpy. Don't try to stir the lumps out. See Photo
- Pour half of the batter into the prepared pan and smooth it slightly. Sprinkle three-fourths of the cinnamon-sugar mixture, distributing it evenly over the batter. Just eyeball the amount of the cinnamon-sugar mix. This will be the cinnamon-sugar ribbon. See Photo
- Top with the remaining batter and smooth it slightly. Sprinkle the remaining cinnamon-sugar mix over the top, distributing it evenly.
- Bake for 45 to 55 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs but no batter. I baked mine for 50 but I think 45 would have been enough. Allow bread to cool in the pan for about 15 minutes.
- Invert the loaf over a paper towel to catch whatever topping falls off. Sprinkle this back on the bread. Allow bread to cool completely on a wire rack. See Photo
- Bread will keep airtight for up to five days.

This was devoured by my family! I didn't do the greatest job of halving the batter to make that little brown sugar/cinnamon line in the middle, but oh well, taste great regardless lol! I'm glad I followed your instructions not to stir the lumps, ha...more
