How to make it

  • Chunk up a cabbage into quarters and rinse. (There is some confusion about what QUARTERS are. They're when you chop the head through the stem to make equal halves. Then you chop those halves into quarters, each having a piece of core so they stay together. Hope that makes sense. Quarters.)
  • Chuck the quarters into a pot so they lay flat.
  • Glug a little chicken broth in -- I dunno, a cup or so? Yeah, whatever looks good.
  • Steam; while steaming, fling some sour cream into a gravy ladle (again, more confusion...gravy pot, gravy boat, gravy container, gravy serving dish, ya know what I mean?) (yes, this is for fancy-pants serving on a platter yowzers!)
  • Rescue the now-tender cabbage quarters and whack them onto a serving platter. (If you're all high-falutin', you can warm the platter first. I like to tuck it under my waistband; combination warming the plate and belly protection, yeay!) (No, not really. Hot water from the faucet.)
  • Dribble the chicken broth/cabbage liquid into the sourcream (which is in the serving container pot ladle gravy thingie) and stir until smooth. If it's thin enough to pour, you're all good. If it's not, glug some more chicken broth in.
  • Glop the sauce over the cabbage (quarters, which are resting on the dish). Sprinkle a little paprika on it too.

Thank you, I was wondering if I should completely rework this recipe! Now pardon me while I go tiptoeing through YOUR recipes for cole slaw, got two heads in the fridge and one is singing the Vinegar and Sugar song!

I knew what you meant and had a blast reading the recipe. I was laughing all the way through! I usually don't like cooked cabbage; I'm a cole slaw or sauerkraut type person mostly. Maybe this will get me to try cooked cabbage again.

I haven't tried this yet, but after reading it and reading satanenterprises comment I'm sure I would agree with her, there has to be a better way to explain this, it is just too haphazard

Hmmmm. Well, I said "Quarters". That would be...4 pieces, cut so there's core in each to hold it together. Quartered. One chop=halved. Then halve the halves=Quartered. Is there a better way to say this?

Gravy Ladle. I must be using the wrong word? Gravy boat? Gravy pot? Gravy serving dish? Gravy container? Something in which to hold the gravy. What's the right word?

Hey could you add some more details to this? You can have pretty massive or small bits of cabbage in a pot that will lie flat.

When I got to step 5 I had a pile of steaming cabbage broth on a platter with some sour cream sitting in a ladle ready to go. The next step tells you to dribble the cabbage into the sour cream which I guessed was around the wrong way. After that the recipie says to glop the sauce over the cabbage... WTF? What sauce?

Ended up tasting alright but not INSANE, maybe with a little editing everyone can taste the insane too.
