- 2 cups of diced leftover ham (2 cups of kielbasa cut in coins) shopping list
- 2 medium onions, diced shopping list
- small amount of bacon fat shopping list
- 1 small head of green cabbage shredded shopping list
- 1 teaspoon of caraway seeds shopping list
- 5 oz of wide egg noodles shopping list
- 1 pkg of grated cheddar cheese (optional for mom, necessary for kids) shopping list
How to make it
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
- Saute ham and onions in bacon fat until onions are soft.
- Add cabbage, caraway, season with some salt and a few grinds of black pepper.
- Cover and let steam until the cabbage is limp but is still green.
- Cook noodles in slightly salted boiling water until just barely tender, drain very well.
- Add to cabbage and ham mixture.
- Put in dutch oven, bake uncovered for 35 to 40 minutes, stirring occasionally to allow mixture to evaporate.
- If you like, top with grated cheese and bake five minutes more.
- My child has to have the cheese to coax her into eating the cabbage. What can I say?
