How to make it

  • Beat egg yolks until creamy and lemon colored
  • Add sugar gradually and beat constantly
  • Alternately add flour, salt and sour cream
  • Lastly add vanilla, lemond rind and rum
  • Knead dough 15 min. until it does not cling to hands
  • Separate dough into several portions
  • Roll very thin ( I like to use my metal pasta maker as it rolls thin sheets)
  • When rolling try not to use a lot of flour or won't be as delicate
  • Turn dough & loosen from board often when rolling
  • Cut dough into strips approx. 1 1/2 in. wide, 4 in. long.
  • Make slit closer to one end and bring longer end through slit.
  • Heat oil to 375 F and fry quickly( only a few seconds) until light brown. Turn only once
  • Drain on paper towels
  • Dust with powdered sugar

Wow! This is kind of like a dessert that a Latvian grandmother, of a friend of mine, used to make when we were kids! I don't think there was rum in those ones, but what a great addition! Thanks, Cherihannah!
