Ocktoberfest Sandwiches

- 1 19-ounce package bratwurst or 4 fresh from the meat department (fresh are better) shopping list
- 4 hoagie rolls shopping list
- 8 slices swiss cheese shopping list
- mustard, your favorite shopping list
- relish shopping list
- 1-14.5 ounce bag or can of sauerkraut, drained (I use bagged) shopping list
- 1 red onion, sliced shopping list
- 1/2 cup scallions, green only, diced shopping list
- 1-2 tablespoons vegetable oil shopping list
- 1/2-3/4 teaspoon sugar shopping list
- 1/2-3/4 teaspoon garlic powder shopping list
- 3 dashes Frank's® hot sauce, less or more to your tastes shopping list
How to make it
- Cut bratwurst 2/3 of the way through. Gently flatten for quick, easy cooking.
- Prepare bratwurst according to package directions. (For added flavor, cook bratwurst in beer rather than water.)
- Remove from skillet and keep warm.
- Drain excess liquid from skillet.
- Add vegetable oil and return skillet to medium-high heat.
- Add red onion and sauté until lightly tender.
- Add sauerkraut and heat with onion.
- Add scallions, sugar, garlic powder, hot sauce and cooked bratwurst.
- Simmer, covered, 5 minutes.
- Place 2 slices swiss cheese on each roll and top with bratwurst, sauerkraut mixture and mustard and relish.
- Serve with a great German beer...Anfeuerungen zu lhrer gesundheit!
