Ocktoberfest Sandwiches Recipe

Ingredients

1 19-ounce package Bratwurst or 4 fresh from the meat department (fresh are better)

4 hoagie rolls

8 slices swiss cheese

Mustard, your favorite

Relish

1-14.5 ounce bag or can of sauerkraut, drained (I use bagged)

1 red onion, sliced

1/2 cup scallions, green only, diced

1-2 tablespoons vegetable oil

1/2-3/4 teaspoon sugar

1/2-3/4 teaspoon garlic powder

3 dashes Frank's® hot sauce, less or more to your tastes

Directions

Cut bratwurst 2/3 of the way through. Gently flatten for quick, easy cooking.

Prepare bratwurst according to package directions. (For added flavor, cook bratwurst in beer rather than water.)

Remove from skillet and keep warm.

Drain excess liquid from skillet.

Add vegetable oil and return skillet to medium-high heat.

Add red onion and sauté until lightly tender.

Add sauerkraut and heat with onion.

Add scallions, sugar, garlic powder, hot sauce and cooked bratwurst.

Simmer, covered, 5 minutes.

Place 2 slices swiss cheese on each roll and top with bratwurst, sauerkraut mixture and mustard and relish.

Serve with a great German beer...Anfeuerungen zu lhrer gesundheit!

I gotta try this.....there ia a meat company i take my meat to be packaged....they make a pesto sausage that i bet would go great with this recipe.....THANK you
