Treacle Scone Recipe

This is an unusual recipe that came from a friend of mine. I haven't tried it yet but she loves it.

Ingredients
- 2 cups, 1 LB, 454g Self Rising Flour
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
- 2 tsp. ground ginger
- 2 tsp. baking soda
- 2 Tblsp. granulated sugar
- 1 cup, 1/2 pt, 235ml buttermilk
- 1 beaten egg
- 2 Tblsp. sunflower/vegetable oil
- 2 Tblsp. treacle or molasses
- *Black treacle is molasses and golden syrup or corn syrup is also considered treacle
Directions
- Preheat oven to 400*F/200*C/gas5
- Grease and flour a 2lb. loaf tin
- Sieve all dry ingredients into a large bowl.
- Add sugar.
- Pour buttermilk into a jug, add egg, oil and treacle... blend well.
- Add liquid to bowl and mix well with a large spoon.
- Transfer to prepared tin.
- Bake in preheated oven for approximately 45 minutes.
- Cool in tin for 10 minutes and then transfer to cooling rack.
- If a soft crust is preferred, cover loaf with clean cloth.
