How to make it

  • Combine scalded milk, shortening, sugar and 1 teaspoon salt.
  • Cool to lukewarm.
  • Soften yeast in the lukewarm water. Add to first mixture.
  • Stir in egg and add to flour all at once.
  • The dough will be very stiff and should be worked till smooth.
  • Turn out on floured board and let rest 10 minutes
  • Roll to rectangular shape, spread with melted butter and sprinkle on some of the sugar and cinnamon mixture.
  • Roll up and cut into 1" pieces. Roll each piece flat in cinnamon sugar mixture.
  • Place on greased cookie sheets, and let rise for 30 minutes.
  • Bake at 300* for 15 to 18 minutes.
  • Glaze if you wish-
  • Glaze:
  • 2 teaspoons oleo
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 1/2 Tablespoons milk
  • Dash of salt
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • Heat ontop of stove, do not boil
