Ingredients

1- 18-1/2 ounce white cake mix

3/4 cup all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1 cup water

3/4 cup canned pumpkin

1/3 cup vegetable oil

2 large eggs

2 tablespoons brown sugar

1-1/3 cups white or vanilla chips

1/2 cup chopped pecans

Frosting:

1 cup butter-flavored Crisco® shortening

2 pounds confectioners' sugar

3/4 cup milk

2 teaspoons vanilla

1-1/2 teaspoons maple flavoring

Directions

Grease 3 9-inch round baking pans.

Line with waxed paper.

Grease the paper and set aside.

In a large mixing bowl, combine cake mix, 1/2 cup flour and cinnamon.

Add water, pumpkin, oil, and eggs.

Beat well.

Transfer 1/3 of the batter to a small mixing bowl.

Beat in brown sugar and remaining flour.

Stir in chips and pecans.

Pour into 1 prepared pan.

Divide the plain batter between the 2 remaining pans.

Bake the 3 cakes at 350° for 20-30 minutes until cake test comes out done.

Cool for 10 minutes before removing from pans and placing onto wire racks to cool completely.

In a large mixing bowl, cram shortening and confectioners' sugar.

Beat in the milk, vanilla and maple flavoring.

Place one plain cake on a serving platter.

Spread with frosting.

Top with the pumpkin-nut cake.

Frost.

Top with remaining cake.

Spread remaining frosting over top and sides of cake.

Serve.
