Ingredients

How to make it

  • In a large bowl marinate beef in soy sauce, water, calamansi, and msg for an hour.
  • Heat frying pan and add 2 Tbs. of corn oil and fry meat in batches until they all have good sear marks on both sides.
  • Remove meat from the pan and set aside. Repeat the process for the next batch.
  • You will need to add more oil each time you fry more batches of meat. When you are done frying, add all the meat back into the frying pan and add the remaining marinade to the pan.
  • Let it simmer for 5 minutes on medium heat and then add the onions and let cook for another minute.
  • Serve with rice and enjoy your Bistek!

hi sorry for the late reply. maybe theres a Filipino store there in Saudi Arabia. Usually they sell everything from the Philippines. I think Lime is good, the purpose of the Calamansi is to give a zesty flavor :)

I would prefer lime cause orange is kinda sweet already. We're after the zesty flavor that will mix with the salty taste :)

This looks and sounds a lot like the beef steak dish my grandma used to cook for me as a kid, only she added crispy fried potato wedges as a finishing touch. I LOVED it back then though I don't eat much beef now. Gotta watch the ticker, ya know lol Thanks for a great post and for rekindling great memories :)

    Sounds very good!!
Do you think I can find calamansi in Minnesota? Can I substitute oranges, or perhaps orange and lime together? Thanks.
