Emancipation Proclaimation Breakfast Cake Recipe

this is an old heritage recipe from the South that has been adapted to my own tastes

Ingredients
- 1/3 cup butter flavored Crisco
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1 egg
- 2 cups all purpose flour
- 1 tbsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/3 cup milk
- 11/2 cups blueberries fresh or frozen
- 1/4 cup honey
- grated peel of 1 orange
- grated peel of 1 lemon
Directions
- Heat oven to 400 degrees
- Combine butter and sugar in a large bowl,beat at med. speed 'til creamy.Beat in egg.
- Combine flour,baking powder,salt and cinnamon.Add alternating with milk to creamed mixture.
- Fold in blueberries
- Pat out to 1/2 in. thickness on a lightly floured surface.
- cut into nine 3" rounds
- Place one in the center of pie plate,arrange 8 tilted and overlapping around center dough circle.
- Spread with honey,sprinkle with orange and lemon peel.
- Bake at 400 degrees for 20 to 24 minutes or until dough in center is thoroughly baked.
- Go ahead...you can eat them warm!!!!
