Ingredients
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 2 eggs
- 2 1/4 cups sifted cake flour
- 2 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup plus 2 tablespoons milk
Directions
- Preheat oven to 375*
- Stir shortening to soften.
- Gradually add sugar and cream throughly
- Add vanilla and eggs (1 at a time) beating well after each
- Sift flour and baking powder and salt
- Add to creamed mixture alternate with milk, beat after each addition
- Bake in 2 paper-lined 9X 1 1/2 inch round pans in 375* oven for about 23 minutes.

Sounds like this cake has some fond memories for you, OM! Some of those older cake recipes from BH&G were excellent - this one sounds like a keeper!
