Peach Delight

- 1 angel food cake shopping list
- 1 large can peaches, drained well, or fresh equivalent shopping list
- 1 container Cool Whip shopping list
- 1 recipe vanilla custard (for homemade banana pudding) shopping list
- Custard: shopping list
- 1/3 c flour (scant) OR 1/4 c cornstarch shopping list
- 2/3 c sugar shopping list
- 2 c milk, scalded shopping list
- 3 slightly beaten egg yolks shopping list
- 2 T. butter or margarine shopping list
- 1/2 t. vanilla shopping list
How to make it
- Custard:
- Mix flour and sugar in saucepan.
- Gradually add scalded milk.
- Cook over moderate heat, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens and boils.
- Cook 2 minutes.
- Add small amount of mixture to slightly beaten egg yolks and mix in. Stir into hot mixture.
- Cook 1 minute stirring constantly, (Cook only until reaches pudding consistency).
- Remove from heat. Stir in vanilla and butter.
- (layer with bananas and vanilla wafers for banana pudding: wafers, bananas, pudding, repeat.)
- For Peach Delight:
- Layer in large serving dish: (mom turns the glass cake plate lid upside down and makes a pretty presentation).
- Torn pieces angel food cake, peaches, custard, cool whip, repeat (2 layers each).
- Garnish with more peach slices on top layer of cool whip, arranged in sunburst pattern, and chill
