Red Velvet Cake With Cream Cheese Frosting Recipe

This is a different version of the old traditional Red Velvet- courtesy of McCormick. Haven't made it yet, saving it for Christmas! Sounds like it would be much moister than the old one.

Ingredients
- Cake:
- 2 1/2 c. flour
- 1/2 c. cocoa powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 cup butter, softened
- 2 c. sugar
- 4 eggs
- 1 c sour cream
- 1/2 c milk
- 1 bottle (1 oz.) red food color
- 2 tsp. pure vanilla
- Frosting:
- 1 8 oz. pkg. cream cheese
- 1/2 stick butter
- 2 Tbsp. sour cream
- 2 tsp. Pure vanilla
- 1 lb. confectioner's sugar
Directions
- Cake:
- Sift flour, cocoa, baking soda, and salt. Set Aside.
- Beat butter and sugar in large bowl on high speed for 5 - 7 min, until light and fluffy.
- Beat in eggs, 1 at a time.
- Mix in sour cream, milk, food color, and vanilla.
- Gradually beat in flour mixture on low speed just until blended.
- Do not overbeat.
- Pour batter into 2 greased and floured 9 in. round cake pans.
- Bake in preheated 350 degree oven 35 to 40 min. or until tests done with toothpick.
- Cool 10 min., remove from pans, and cool completely on wire racks.
- Fill and frost .
- Frosting:
- Beat cream cheese, butter, and sour cream until smooth.
- Mix in vanilla extract.
- Gradually beat in the confectioner's sugar on medium speed til light and fluffy.
