Ingredients

How to make it

  • Immerse plank in water 4 hrs to overnight (this is better), weigh down to keep submerged
  • Combine BBQ sauce, Teriyaki sauce and orange peel; reserve ½ for serving with cooked meat, (sauce may be heated for serving with meat)
  • Brush one side of plank with oil, place roast on oiled side of plank
  • Grill one hour or until thermometer registers 150, turning and brushing roast with sauce during last 20 minutes of cooking
  • Discard any sauce left from brushing
  • Remove meat from grill; cover loosely with foil
  • Let stand 10 minutes
  • Slice thin and serve with reserved sauce

Great idea. We have done chicken, shrimp and salmon plank grilling. But have never tried pork or beef. We also go to a lumber yard and buy our cedar, then cut it into the appropriate lengths. This deserves a 5! On my recipe website "FareShare" you can see some of our plank cooking at: http://www.fareshare.net/plank-main.html

We love plank cooking but have never bought one at the lumber yard. Good idea.

May I ask, have you every heard of doing a beef roast this way?

I've heard of planking, but never been exposed to it. Veeeery interesting. Am I correct in assuming the grill must be covered? I'm asking because I have a little hibachi. It would take about eight days to cook it on that, I think. lol :^)
We have a covered grill at the cabin, where I will try this. Thanks.

We've planked salmon, but never thought to do so with pork - thank you for the wonderful recipe!
