This came out nice and dense (in my machine). Made a grilled chicken/cheese sandwich (in my Foreman grill) and it held up really well! Good toasted, too! I found this recipe at allrecipes.com

- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp salt
- 3 Tbs honey
- 1-1/2 Tbs vegetable oil
- 1-1/2 cups buttermilk (room temperature)

1/2 tsp baking soda shopping list
1 tsp salt shopping list
3 Tbs honey shopping list
1-1/2 Tbs vegetable oil shopping list
1-1/2 cups buttermilk (room temperature) shopping list

How to make it

Put ingredients into bread machine in order recommended by manufacturer.
Instructions say to use "Medium" temperature setting. I used my machine's Whole Wheat Bread setting set at 1.5 lb loaf.

Didn't turn out to well trying to convert the recipe to a hand kneaded one. Baking time/temp gave trouble.

I've never used baking soda in a yeast bread before. Interesting. Honey always goes very well in a wheat bread. It sounds yummy.
