I got this at allrecipes.com, but I don't make it exactly as the recipe lists, so this reflects my changes. This is the recipe I use most often for bread.

I'm such a "basics" gal -- I haven't even gotten a bread machine. I'm sure this would come out great the old, conventional method of kneading and letting rise.

Thanks, this is one for the book. ES,I just let the machine do the mixing.Saves on the hands. Rise and bake in my pans.

Uh... I'm sorry, but when was it exactly that the Amish started using bread machines? I'm sure it tastes great, but don't call it Amish Bread. IT CERTAINLY IS NOT!!! Just a simple bread machine recipe, nothing more.

I have a Amish bread recipe that takes 10 days to make. A long time but it is great.I will save this and try it the old fashion way. no machine. had one and gave it away 14 years ago. I didn't care for the texture of bread machine bread. Like it better by hand. thanks for the post. this one I'll try in the dutch oven and over the campfire.

I appreciate the recipe, Frankieanne. I can't make bread anymore because of fibromyalgia, so I'm hunting for tried and true good bread machine recipes. Amish is what drew me to this recipe.....I knew it had to be good. Thanks for sharing. - Linda
