- 1 pkg. dry yeast shopping list
- 1/4 cup lukewarm water shopping list
- 1/4 cup butter shopping list
- 1Tbs. sugar shopping list
- 1 tsp. salt shopping list
- 1 cup scalded milk shopping list
- 4 cups flour-about shopping list
- 1 egg-seperated shopping list
How to make it
- soften yeast in lukewarm water
- dissolve butter,sugar and salt in scalded milk
- cool to lukewarm add yeast and mix well
- put 1/2 of the flour in a large mixing bowl; make a well in the center and pour the liquid in,add the egg white and stir well
- start adding the rest of the flour to make a soft dough that can be turned out on a floured surface
- knead until smooth
- place in a well greased bowl turning to coat both sides,cover and let rise to double in size
- knead again and devide into quarters
- roll each into a long rope.cut into 6" pieces and form into a donut
- let stand onboard for 10 minutes.bring a pot of water just under boiling and drop bagels in cook on each side
- remove from water and place on a greased sheet
- beat yoke with 1 ts. water and brush tops.
- sprinkle withe course sale or dried onions
- bake at 400F for about 15 minutes.makes about 2 dozen
