AN OLE CROCK OF SMOKED SAUSAGE STEW This recipe came from an estate sale. I obtained it when I purchased the family collection from the Thorp Estate in Mesquite, Texas in 1998.

Ingredients
  • 1 pound smoked sausage in 1/2" slices
  • 4 medium potatoes cut into 1" cubes
  • 15 ounce can green peas undrained
  • 15 ounce can chopped tomatoes undrained
  • 1 can French onion soup
  • 2 tablespoons onion flakes
  • 1-1/2 cups water

Directions
  1. Place all ingredients in crock pot and stir well.
  2. Cook on low for 6 hours.

Love cooking with the crockpot and this sounds great!


Potatoes aren't close to fork tender at 6 hours. Adding 2 more hours on HI to try to complete cooking.

Two hours later: There is nothing outstanding about this stew except for the grease. The sausage should have been sauteed and the grease removed.

Bonus comment: Mother liked the stew.
