Ingredients

How to make it

  • Bring sugar and water to a boil over medium heat.
  • Stir until all sugar is dissolved.
  • Add rosewater and saffron, cover, and remove from heat.
  • Heat butter or oil in a large saucepan over low flame.
  • Add flour and stir to form a smooth paste.
  • Continue to cook, stirring often, until the paste takes on a golden color, about 5-10 minutes.
  • Slowly beat the syrup into the flour paste with a whisk.
  • Remove from heat, and spread evenly onto a plate or platter.
  • Make patterns to your liking on top of the paste with the back of a spoon or with a knife.
  • Cover and chill until fully set. (about 2 hours)
  • Cut into wedges and serve with tea or coffee.

    This is a beautiful recipe! Doesn't sound like the usual Halvah I have had in the past. This is a must try for me! I like the idea of Saffron & Rosewater...:)

    I tried a different version of this once, ( i love halva) but it failed to form the 'crystals' of sugar in the halva I was thinking i would get. This recipe looks better, will try it and let you know how it turns out. Thanks!
