Pork steaks made tender by slow roasting in mushroom sauce.

Ingredients
  • 2 Tbs. veg. oil
  • 4 pork steaks
  • onion powder
  • garlic powder
  • salt and pepper
  • 1 lg. onion,chopped
  • 2(4.5 oz.) cans sliced mushrooms,drained
  • 2(10.75 oz.) cans cream of mushroom soup
  • 1(10.75 oz) can of water
  • 1(1 oz) pkg. dry onion soup mix
  • 1 Tbs. Worcestershire sauce

Directions
  1. Preheat oven to 350. Heat oil in a large heavy skillet over med-high heat. Brown steaks for 3-5 mins. on each side. While browning,season both sides with onion powder,garlic powder,salt and pepper. Transfer steaks to a 9x13" casserole dish,and sprinkle with chopped onion and sliced mushrooms.
  2. In a small bowl,combine condesed soup,water,onion soup mix and worcestershire sauce. Mix until smooth,and pour over the steaks. Cover pan with aluminum foil. Bake in preheated oven for 90 mins.

Being from Nebraska, I was wondering if anything good (food-wise) comes out of Iowa - this one sure does!

I tried this nite before last. I cut the recipe in half because I only had two pork steaks. Outstanding, those Iowan's really know how to cook. Just add the gravy to colcannon (Irish Mashed Potatoes) and maybe some steamed veggies and dinner is served...mmmmmm.
