This will work perfectly on my camping trip! I've been looking for ideas to use while camping next week! I'm printing this (I'm sure there'll be no wireless connection where I'm going!)

These were popular at our house and they are so delicious. And my Momma always used Granny Smiths for her Skillet Apples, too. Like you mentioned, these can be served a side or for a dessert. My parents would eat them with their roasted pork - us kids would save them and eat them last for dessert. Great recipe, SM - high 5! Thanks!! =)
