Iowa Almond Bars

- 4 cups all purpose flour shopping list
- 1 tablespoon sugar shopping list
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt shopping list
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder shopping list
- 1 1/2 cups shortening shopping list
- 1 egg shopping list
- 1/2 cup water shopping list
- 1 1/2 tablespoons white vinegar shopping list
- 3 cups sugar shopping list
- 6 tablespoons flour shopping list
- 4 egg yolks shopping list
- 6 tablespoons milk shopping list
- 4 tablespoon almond extract- don't use less! shopping list
- heavy whipping cream shopping list
- white sugar shopping list
How to make it
- sift the dry ingredients and cut in shortening.
- Whip together egg, water, and vinegar
- Stir into the flour mixture
- Divide the dough into four portions and roll into four 9x13 rectangles
- Line two 9x13 pans with two of the dough rectangles.
- Make the filling starting with the 3 cups of sugar.
- divide the filling mixture among the two pans spreading to the corners and cover with the remaining dough rectangles
- Spread some heaving whipping cream over the top of the dough and sprinkle with some white sugar
- Bake 30 minutes at 350 degrees, cool and cut into bars
