Cherry Nut Cake

A 1930's recipe from Mom's Kansas cookbook I checked other cakes of this type from this book and have made a note about the salt, according to other recipes, it should be about a tsp.
Ingredients
- 1/2 Cup shortening shopping list
- 1 Cup sugar shopping list
- 1/2 cup milk shopping list
- 2 Cups of cake flour shopping list
- 2 1/2 tsp baking powder shopping list
- 2 1/2 tsp salt (OK, this seems like about 1 1/2 tsps too much) shopping list
- 1/2 C chopped nuts shopping list
- 1/2 C maraschino cherries, cut fine shopping list
- 1 tsp vanilla shopping list
- 4 Tbl cherry juice shopping list
- 3 egg whites, beaten stiff shopping list
How to make it
- Cream shortening and sugar until fluffy
- Add milk alternately with the sifted dry ingredients
- Add the nuts, cherries, vanilla and cherry juice
- Fold in egg whites
- Bake in a greased 10" tube pan for 45 to 60 minutes
