Fresh fish in eaten a great deal in Bengal ( Banglesh), and this dish is made with mustard oil wich gives the fish a good flavor.

Ingredients
  • 1 tsp. Turmeric
  • 1 tsp. Salt
  • 2 ¼ pounds cod fillet, skinned and cut into pieces
  • 6 tsp. Corn oil
  • Fresh green chilies
  • 1 tsp.inely chopped fresh ginger root
  • 1 tsp. Rushed garlic
  • 2 medium onions finely chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, finely chopped
  • 6 tsp. Mustard oil
  • 2 cups water
  • Fresh cilantro leaves, chopped, to garnish

Directions
  1. Mix together turmeric and salt in a small bowl.
  2. Spoon the tureric and salt mixture over the fish pieces
  3. Heat the oil in skillet. Add the fish to the skillet and fry until pale golden yellow. Remove the fish with a solotted spoon and set aside.
  4. Place he green chillies, ginger, onion, garlic, tomatoes and mustard oil with a pestle to form a paste. Alternatively, grind the ingredients in a food processor.
  5. Transfer the spicy paste to a saucepan and dry fry util goleden brown.
  6. Remove the pean from the heat, add th water, and cook the fish, uncovered, over a médium heat for 15 – 20 minutes.
  7. Serve inmediataly, garnished with chopped cilantro.

Never heard of mustard oil. Can it be made at home? .........Bob


If you can’t get mustard oil, just substitute it for your cooking oil.
