How to make it

  • Preheat oven to 350
  • Cream shortening, sugar & cocoa, beat until smooth.
  • Add eggs one at a time, beating well after.
  • Sift flour, salt, baking soda together.
  • Add milk & alternate with flour mixture.
  • Add boiling water and vanilla and beat well.
  • Pour into 2 8 inch round pans that have been greated and floured.
  • Bake 30 minutes at 350.
  • Icing:
  • Cream shortening & cocoa together.
  • Add salt and vanilla.
  • Next add sugar slowly.
  • Mix well and slowly add milk to desired thickness.
  • Spread on cooled cake.
  • If you want vanilla icing, just leave out the cocoa.
