How to make it

  • Cook onions in butter over low heat in medium skillet until very tender and lightly browned then stir in sage.
  • Arrange onions on bread and sprinkle with tomatoes and cheese.
  • Bake at 350 until bread is hot and cheese is melted.
  • Cut in wedges.

    This was great-- I used the topping on my own homemade pizza-style bread, adding crumbled sage to the dough. It got raves. The combination of the sweet onions, the chewy tomatoes and the salty cheese was perfect.
