Simmered Sauerkraut Recipe
Simmering the sauerkraut for several hours makes it melt-in-your-mouth tender.Juniper berries gives the dish a distinctive flavor but if you can't find them ,omit them.

Ingredients
  • 3 lbs. sauerkraut drained
  • 31/2c chicken broth
  • 1 medium yellow onion,chopped
  • 1tsp. juniper berries
  • 1/2 tsp fresh ground pepper

Directions
  1. In a medium saucepan with a lid,combine the sauerkraut,chicken broth,onion,juniper berries and pepper. Bring to a boil,then reduce to low. Cover and simmer 2 to 3 hours. Serve with pork roast,chops or ribs.

This is very similar to a recipe of mine. I add 1 head of shredded cabbage and 1 clove minced garlic to the mix. Thanks for the post!
