Fun Taffy Pull
From dimensionality 16 years agoIngredients
- 1 cup granulated sugar shopping list
- 1/4 cup light corn syrup shopping list
- 2 tablespoons butter shopping list
- 2/3 cup water shopping list
- 1 teaspoon salt shopping list
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch shopping list
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract shopping list
- 8-10 drops food coloring shopping list
- extra butter for hands shopping list
How to make it
- Have ready a well buttered 10 inch pan for it to cool in.
- Combine in a two quart pot :
- sugar, corn syrup, butter, water, salt and corn starch
- Mix very well and once it's boiling you can check to see when it's ready by dropping a little bit off a spoon into cold water. If a hard ball forms, it's time to remove from heat and add a teaspoon of vanilla extract and 8 or 10 drops of food coloring. Place in the buttered pan and allow to cool enough to handle it. Now butter your hands and go have some fun. Pull it, bend it, flatten it and fold it until it is stiff and lightly colored like pastels. Cut into desired shapes and sizes and wrap in wax paper. If you work fast enough with it, you can even attempt ribbons or twisted pieces. It's a blast. This recipe will make about a pound of taffy. The more people you have playing with the soft candy, the more you may want to double or triple the ingredients.
- Caution : Children must wait until an adult says it's okay to handle it, as it is quite hot and can leave some nasty burns if touched when it first comes out of the pan. Keep checking though. You don't want to allow it to get so cool that it's no longer pliable.
