From kathye 16 years agoIngredients
- For "soup"~ shopping list
- 4 cups whole milk shopping list
- 1 can sweetened condensed milk (14 oz) shopping list
- 1 bag Ghirardelli bittersweet choc chips (11 1/2 oz) shopping list
- 1/4 cup Kahlua or other coffee-flavored liqueur, optional shopping list
- 1/2 tsp salt shopping list
- 2 tsp vanilla extract shopping list
- 1 tsp espresso powder, optional shopping list
- For the "salsa"~ shopping list
- 1/2 cup strawberries, diced shopping list
- 1/2 cup fresh pineapple, diced (hint: if you don't want to buy a whole pineapple you can get a few chunks from your market's salad bar) shopping list
- 1/2 cup kiwi, diced shopping list
- 1 tsp sugar shopping list
How to make it
- Combine whole milk, condensed milk, choc chips, liqueur, and salt in a saucepan
- Bring to a simmer over medium-low heat, whisking constantly
- Reduce heat to low and cook, whisking ofter, until chocolate melts and mixture is smooth, 20-25 minutes (as the chocolate melts, it may look a little grainy but don't worry-it will smooth out, but whisk it often as it heats)
- Whisk vanilla and espresso powder together in a small dish until dissolved
- Take the "soup" off the heat and stir in the vanilla/espresso mixture
- Serve immediately (yes, warm) and top with "salsa" and a dollop of whipped cream, if desired
- Note: You can make the "soup" ahead and reheat (over LOW heat) but make the "salsa " right before serving so it is fresh
