- 1 lb mild Italian sausage shopping list
- 1 medium onion shopping list
- 4 cloves garlic, minced shopping list
- 1/4 cup green pepper, diced shopping list
- 1/4 cup red pepper, diced shopping list
- 1 can whole tomatoes shopping list
- 1 jar spaghetti sauce of choice (I use super chunky mushroom) shopping list
- 1 small can mushrooms shopping list
- 1/4 tsp. dried basil shopping list
- 1/4 tsp. italian seasoning shopping list
- 1/4 tsp. red pepper flakes shopping list
- 1 lb penne pasta shopping list
- 15 oz. ricotta cheese shopping list
- 1/2 cup shredded parmesan cheese shopping list
- 1/2 cup chopped fresh parsley shopping list
- 1 cup mozzarella cheese shopping list
How to make it
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F
- Brown sausage.
- While browning sausage, add onion, peppers and garlic.
- Saute until softened.
- Add can of tomatoes and crush.
- Stir in spaghetti sauce, mushrooms and seasoning.
- Simmer on low while pasta is cooking.
- Cook pasta until al dente. (try not to overcook the pasta as it will continue to cook in the oven)
- Drain the pasta.
- Put the ricotta & parmesan cheeses into the pot in which you cooked the pasta.
- Pour the pasta back into the pot and stir to coat the pasta.
- Add the parsley and mix thoroughly.
- In a 9 x 13" pan, pour 1/2 the sauce.
- Put the pasta in next.
- Cover with the remaining sauce.
- Sprinkle with the mozzarella cheese.
- Bake for 25 - 35 minutes until bubbly.
- Remove from oven and let sit for 10 minutes before serving.
