Date Squares

- Base shopping list
- 1 1/2 cups cake flour shopping list
- 1 1/2 cups rolled oats shopping list
- 1 cup packed brown sugar shopping list
- 1/2 tsp baking soda shopping list
- 1/4 tsp salt shopping list
- 3/4 cups butter or margarine shopping list
- date Paste shopping list
- 1 pound dried dates shopping list
- 1/3 cup brown sugar (optional as dates are very sweet) shopping list
- 1/2 cup orange juice shopping list
- 1/2 cup water shopping list
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract shopping list
How to make it
- Pre-heat oven to 350 f.
- Place dates in a pot with sugar, orange juice and water over medium heat
- Cook and mash with a fork or potato masher until you get a paste
- Add vanilla and set aside to cool
- Mix all of the dry ingredients together and add butter or margarine
- With your hand combine everything until you get a crumbly mixture
- Split mixture in half and place in a 9x9 inch greased pan
- Press down slightly to create a crust
- Carefully place the date paste on top of the crust
- Loosely place the rest of the "crumbs" on top of the date paste but DO NOT press down on it to create a crust
- Place in the oven for 20 mins
- Let it cool before cutting
- Enjoy!
