Hot Sausage Sandwiches Ala Pittsburgh Recipe
Can't imagine a tailgate without hot sausage! Whether its the Steelers, Penn State, Pitt or your local Friday night high school game, its just not a football game without one of these. From Three Rivers Cookbook.

Ingredients
  • 3 lbs hot sausage, cut into 8 pieces
  • 1 green pepper, chopped
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1 large can whole Italian tomatoes
  • 1 12 oz. can tomato paste
  • oregano, thyme & bay leaf
  • 8 Mancini's (other other brand) hoagie buns

Directions
  1. Put sausage in a pot and cover with water. Bring to boil and simmer 35-40 minutes.
  2. Drain all but 5 tablespoons of juice. Saute chopped pepper, onion and garlic in juice until soft.
  3. Add tomatoes with juice, tomato paste and spices to taste.
  4. Simmer 15-20 minutes and serve on buns.
