Ingredients
  • 1 1/4 cups warm water
  • 1 pkg active dry yeast or 1 cake compressed yeast
  • 2 tbs soft shortening
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 2 tgs sugar
  • 3 cups sifted all purpose flour
  • 1 envelope dehydrated onion soup mix

Directions
  1. Measure water into a large bowl
  2. sprinkle or crumble yeast ;stir to dissolve
  3. add shortening,salt,sugar and 1 1/2 cups flour
  4. Beat 2 min at med speed on a mixer,Scrape bowl often
  5. Add 1 1/2 cups flour and soup mix.
  6. Blend with a spoon until smooth
  7. Cover;let rise in a warm place,free from draft,
  8. 30 min or unril doubled.
  9. stir down,beat about 25 strokes.
  10. spread evenly in greased 9x5x3 in pan.batter will be sticky
  11. cover let rise about 40 min or until dough is about 1 ins from top of the pan
  12. Bake 375 for 45 to 50 min
  13. remove from pan to wire rack
  14. brush top with butter
