Ingredients

How to make it

  • Drain cherries and reserve liquid. Sprinkle cherries with a little sugar and cinnamon if desired. Mix together the remaining ingredients. Roll out the dough and cut in large circles. Fill each with drained cherries, approx 2 tablespoons. Seal the edges of the dumplings, brushing with a little water first to ensure they seal well (like making fried pies). Place dumplings in a large deep baking dish. Cover with three cups of sugar and dot with about 4 tablespoons of butter. Cover with reserved liquid from the chrries and boiling water. Bake at 375 degrees for approximately one hour. Cool and serve with your favorite vanilla ice cream.

Yes, I have. But I sprinkled a little sugar and cinnamon on them prior to using them in the dumplings. Some fresh cherries are very tart!
