Ingredients
  • Jello:
  • three 3 ounce packages cranberry flavored jello (see note)
  • 1-1/2 cups BOILING water (not just hot)
  • one 16 ounce can WHOLE BERRY cranberry sauce
  • one 20 ounce can crushed pineapple (DO NOT DRAIN)
  • 1 cup port wine
  • Topping:
  • one 8 ounce package cream cheese, softened
  • one 8 ounce container sour cream, at room temperature
  • a few drops of milk, if needed

Directions
  1. In a large bowl, mix together jello and boiling water until jello completely dissolves. Stir in cranberry sauce, pineapple and its juice, and port wine and mix to blend well. Pour into a 13X9 clear glass serving dish or serving dish of equal volume. Refrigerate until set, about 4-6 hours.
  2. In a small mixing bowl, beat together cream cheese and sour cream, adding a few drops of milk, if necessary, until mixture is smooth and of spreading consistency. Spread evenly over top of set jello. Refrigerate until ready to serve.
  3. Note: Cranberry flavored jello is usually only available during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. If you cannot find it in your area, raspberry flavored jello works equally well. If you use a different size/shape serving dish (like a cut crystal bowl for a prettier presentation), you may need to adjust the topping amounts. You do not need to buy top of the line port for this recipe. I buy whatever is the cheapest on sale at the grocery store and it always works well.

Thanks for this festive recipe! I search year-round for new & unique holiday foods to serve at Thanksgiving & X-mas. This will surely be served at one or the other this year!

Ok, Im making this for Thanksgiving!

Got it bookmarked, toots!

I love my ex-MI's cranberry salad, but this recipe sounds very good. Like Mrs. W, I think I'll have to make this one on Thanksgiving.

Just made it today and it is fantastic! Made it exactly as directed and think next time I may add some coarsely ground walnuts to the top. Don't wait till after the holidays to get your cranberry jello, you may not be able to find it. This is going on our T-giving menu!

I think this is going on our Thanksgiving menu too!! My BF's family has jello at all of their holiday meals and I was loathe to present plain ole cherry jello on my holiday table. This looks perfect!!

This is exactly what I was looking for...something new to add to Thanksgiving...
