How to make it

  • Cook to stiff ball just before a light crack. Take off fire & add nuts & enough baking soda to make a nice color. Keep stirring while adding nuts & baking soda. You can mix English walnuts & black walnuts together. This makes it less expensive.
  • Put in greased pan & spread out & cut into pieces when cool.
  • NOTE: I interpret "stiff" ball as hard ball stage. Don't you just love the "less expensive" comment?! I never use the black walnuts as I don't like them. Good with pecans and almonds or cashews, too.

My grandma had one just like this! I tried once in high school, but then lost the recipe. Thanks!

I want to make this, as I love, love black walnuts! One question, though: what quantity of nuts do you use? I don't think it's in your recipe, or I overlooked it. Let me know so I can make this! Thanks!

I haven't made taffy in over 40 yrs! Omg, I'm old! Ack! I have to make this as I'm also a black walnut fan. This sounds just too good to me! Oh thank you, thank you for your recipe!
