How to make it

  • Cream shortening then add sugar and vanilla and cream thoroughly.
  • Add beaten egg and mix thoroughly.
  • Sift dry ingredients and add alternately with milk.
  • Spread half the batter in a greased square cake pan then cover with fig filling.
  • Add remaining batter than bake at 350 for 45 minutes.
  • For the filling rinse figs with hot water then chop fine.
  • Blend with remaining filling ingredients and spread over bottom half of batter.

    I just discovered that a neighbor has a fig tree... figs everywhere and he's not doing anything with them! this looks sooo good, may have to sneak over in the evening and pull them off the tree LOL
