Traditional Gefilte Fish

- 1 large fresh minced Carp (not frozen). REMEMBER: This is the traditional recipe. Remove head and bones for the sauce. shopping list
- 1 large chopped onion shopping list
- 2 teaspoons of salt shopping list
- 2 tablespoons of sugar. ( YES! You read it right). shopping list
- 2 teaspoons of pepper. shopping list
- 3 eggs shopping list
- 3-4 spoons of " Matzoh Meal". If you can't find it, Use bread crumbs shopping list

- FOR THE SAUCE: shopping list
- Remove the head and bones of the Carp, (or ask your butcher or fishmonger to do it for you ). shopping list
- 1 large sliced onion. shopping list
- 1 teaspoon of salt. shopping list
- 2 sliced carrots. shopping list
- 1 tablespoon of sugar. shopping list
- 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper. shopping list
- 1 1/2 liters of water shopping list
How to make it
- Put all the ingredient for the sauce into a pot.(including head and bones)
- Bring to the boil.
- Set flame down to low
- Meantime! mix well all the other ingredients .It should form a cement like texture. Control texture by using more or less "Matsoh meal"
- Form round patties from the mixture and place in pot with the sauce.
- Cover pot and cook for about 1 1/2 hr's
- Let everything cool down and refrigerate.
- Serve cold with a slice of carrot on each patty.

Excellent recipe Ronny! I'm pretty sure my Mother-in-law made it in a similar manner. Unfortunately, most of her wonderful recipes passed away with her and the recipes I do have are few and far between. High "5" to you and your gefilte fish winner!
