Molasses Crinkle Cookies
From hollyeats 15 years agoIngredients
- 3/4 cup shortening (not butter or margarine) shopping list
- 1 cup fine sugar shopping list
- 1/4 cup dark (but not blackstrap) molasses shopping list
- 1 large egg shopping list
- 2 tsp. baking soda shopping list
- 2 C white flour shopping list
- 1/2 tsp. salt shopping list
- Generous 1/2 tsp. ground cloves shopping list
- 3/4 tsp. ground ginger shopping list
- 1 tsp. cinnamon shopping list
How to make it
- Melt the shortening in a large bowl in the microwave and cool it to room temperature.
- Add the sugar, molasses and egg and beat well.
- Sift together the dry ingredients and add, mixing well with a wooden spoon.
- Wrap the dough in clear wrap and refrigerate a few hours or overnight.
- Roll dough into 1" balls.
- Place on lined or greased cookie sheets and bake in a preheated 375° oven 8-10 minutes or until browned but not crisp.
- Allow to cool a couple minutes on the sheet before removing to a rack to completely cool.
- Store in an airtight container.
- Alternatively, for a chewy brownie-type bar, pat the dough evenly into a greased 13x9" pan and bake 20-25 minutes or until browned at the edges but still chewy. These will not keep quite as well but that's never been a problem at my house!

Well, this will be another addition to my holiday baking tray. We love molasses and these sound not only easy but decadent. Great post and a high five.
