Homemade Vanilla Custard

- 1/2 cup sugar shopping list
- 3 tablespoons cornstarch shopping list
- 1/2 teaspoon salt shopping list
- 4 egg yolks shopping list
- 3 cups milk shopping list
- 2 tablespoons butter or margarine shopping list
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract shopping list
How to make it
- Bring first 5 ingredients to a boil in a heavy saucepan over medium heat (about 20 minutes), whisking contantly; boil, whisking constantly or until thickened.
- Remove from heat.
- Stir in butter and vanilla.
- Place heavy duty plastic wrap directly on surface of custard to keep "skin" from forming.
- Chill 2 hours

This was a wonderful and easy custard. I made rice pudding. It was so easy I also used truvia instead of sugar and made a P-nutbutter custard pie that was equally wonderful. I will never buy a box pudding again.

I have chickens, and am always looking for ways to use their eggs. This custard is amazingly delicious. Took about a half hour standing in front of the stove stirring it. Turned out far better than I ever expected.
