How to make it

  • Measure oats into a mixing bowl, add boiling water, stir and cool.
  • Cream both sugars, butter and shortening and butter.
  • Add eggs and vanilla, beat very well.
  • Sift dry ingredents in batches into the creamed mixture mixing well.
  • Pour into a greased and floured 9x13 pan.
  • Bake in preheated 350 degree oven.
  • While cake is baking, make frosting, have ready.
  • Mix frosting ingredents together and mix well.
  • When cake is done spread frosting on hot cake, place under broiler for a few minutes to brown.
  • Serve with a dollop of fresh whipped cream or cool whip
  • Soooooooo good.
  • ENJOY

    Broiled toppings are such a quick and easy way to finish a cake and my husband loves them made with coconut; it gets nice and toasted under the broiler.
