Sunflower Multigrain Flax Bread Recipe
I've made this bread for years and we especially like the flavor . Good with anything but especially good with cheese.

Ingredients
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 2 cups warm water
  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1/3 cup fancy molasses
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted sunflower seeds, toasted
  • 1/2 cup quick cooking oats
  • 1/4 cup flaxseeds
  • 1/4 cup 3-grain cereal, Red River or Sunny Boy
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 4 cups white flour

Directions
  1. In large mixing bowl, dissolve sugar in warm water. Sprinkle with yeast; let stand about 10 minutes. Stir in molasses and oil. Add whole wheat flour, sunflower seeds, oats, flaxseeds, cereal and salt. Stir in enough white flour to form slightly sticky dough. (I use my mixer) . Knead dough until elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover with a towel and let rise until double, about 1 1/2 hours.
  2. Punch down dough. Place in greased loaf pans, I make it into 2 loaves but it depends on the size of bread you want. Cover and let rise until doubled in bulk, about 1 hour. Brush lightly with water and bake at 357 degrees until done, about 30-35 minutes.

This is a great recipe and one i will try this week
Thanks

This is entirely too healthy. I may have to substitute the 3-grain cereal, (unless wally-world has it we can't get it) but I'm going to give this one a try. My herb tomato bread might be somethign you would like. The multi-grain hamburger buns are also fantastic.

If you can't find 3-grain cereal, I quite often substitute Sunny boy or Red River cereal. I have the herb tomato bread flagged but wasn't aware of the hamburger buns. Thanks so much

This is great!

OK.... I'm still looking for a bread recipe that's good for a diabetic...and also low sodium... I usually leave the salt out competely when I bake my usual bread... "country seed".... for this sunflower, multigrain, I can substitute the sugar with splenda but as for the molasses????? and the 3 grain cereal??? don't have that cereal in the house and not sure of the ingredients re: sugar and salt.... Going back to search.... Glorybe!

Very, very nice bread! Surprised no one has rated it yet. High 5!

Good on you for sharing this one. It sounds like it'll do the job for me. Thanks, I can't wait to try it. I've got the gear and I'm into it!
