My Mama made this and my Daddy always called it SOS. It wasnt till I was grown that I found out that it was an army name for this dish. I wont type here what it stands for, just use your imagination, lol.

Oh nostalgia! great post, Mare

OMG.....haven't made this in eons! Great post!

Perfect! This one I grew up on too. It was one of my favorites as a kid. I haven't been able to find it in the stores though. I'm sure it is there somewhere. I have been wanting to make it.
Thanks for a great recipe.

I haven't done this in over a decade. My husband likes it, but not the kids - I use deli meat in it's place. In our stores it is in a pouch now instead of a glass jar.

I love Chipped Beef Gravy!

Alterations

The only thing I do differently is use oil instead of butter and I brown the meat with flour sifted onto it before adding milk and more flour wisked into milk. I don't know if it tastes any differently or not!
