San Francisco-Style Sourdough bread

- 1-1/4 cup sourdough starter shopping list
- 2 tbsp milk shopping list
- 1-1/4 cup warm water shopping list
- 3 cups bread flour shopping list
- 1 tbsp sugar shopping list
- 3/4 tsp salt shopping list
- 1 tsp active dry yeast or bread machine yeast shopping list
- cornmeal shopping list
How to make it
- Measure sourdough starter cold
- Bring to room temperature
- Add the ingredients according to your bread machine directions
- Select dough cycle
- When cycle is complete, remove dough,
- Punch down
- Cover and let rest 10 minutes
- On a lightly floured surface, shape dough into a ball.
- Place on a lightly greased sheet sprinkled with cornmeal
- Flatten slightly to form an 8" round loaf
- Using a very sharp knife make several 1/4" inch deep cuts across top
- Cover and let rise in warm place for 30-45 minutes or until nearly doubled
- Lightly brush top with water
- Bake in 400 oven for 20-30 minutes or until bread sounds hollow when tapped lightly
- Remove from baking sheet
- Cool on wire rack
- Makes 1 (1-1/2 pound loaf)
